Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland tied in points for the FIFA best trophy awards. However, Messi was declared the overall winner as he received more first-place votes than Haaland. Messi garnered 107 captain votes, including those from all four home nation skippers (Harry Kane, Andy Robertson, Aaron Ramsey, and Jonny Evans), while Haaland received 64 votes from national team captains.

Meanwhile, English manager Gareth Southgate voted for Erling Haaland, Rodri, and Bernardo Silva. Luka Modric and Fede Valvede, both teammates at Real Madrid, each chose Messi as their first pick, prompting an upset response from Madrid fans on social media.
